Today at the Electoral Reform Service's counting hall in London it was announced that James Morton won the Area Chairmanship of Devon and Cornwall Conservative Future - the only contested Area seat in the country.

Mr Morton had been acting chairman for the last 4 months since the resignation of his predecessor Christian May. He will now be co-ordinating one of the fastest growing regions of youth participation in the country, including the Exeter University Branch which won this year’s Conservative National Excellence Award.

The role of Area Chairmen in Conservative Future is a vital position within the organisation’s infrastructure. It is the key communication role between branches and the National Management Executive, allowing a two-way flow of information between the three levels. Area Chairmen have to know what is going on within their branches, be able to advise and support their events and keep the National Management Executive aware of progress and developments within their Area.

Upon learning of his success, Morton said: "Devon and Cornwall Conservative Future is a rapidly expanding entity. To match this pace I will continue with my unfaltering enthusiasm. David Cameron, in his last speech of conference, spoke of 'ambition and opportunity'. Under my leadership this will encompass all that we stand for, turning my committee's ambition into our member’s opportunity.

I am both delighted and honoured with this result. Devon and Cornwall Conservative Future will continue to grow at its current pace and embrace any opportunities which will inevitably arise."
